Snow Mountain antics!

My students are truly very HAPPY kids! It was a pleasure watching them yesterday frolicking in the sun without a care in the world. Seeing them all excited as they slid from the top of "Mount Everest" made me smile. There's nothing more beautiful than seeing kids being kids. I mentioned this to them and one girl in my class remarked that it was a shame that kids everywhere in the world could not enjoy something as simple as playing. She made reference to kids who are child labourers who are denied the right to attend school. I stood in awe and listened to her speak passionately about an issue that I also hold dear to my heart. When she was done talking she raced back up the snow mountain and asked me to take another picture of the group. I really love my job! Never a dull moment around kids! #the simple pleasures of life

Social Studies presentations

This past week's  Social Studies presentations on a social or environmental issue was a definite SLAM DUNK!!! Don't know how else to express my satisfaction and pride with the students' effort and enthusiasm while speaking passionately about some serious issues - Pollution, Poverty, Hunger, Healthcare, Crime. The research was amazing and supported by graphs, charts and tables. Well done everyone! I was truly pleased :-)

Chef à l’école

The 'Chef à l’école' presentation was GREAT! My students loved every minute of the 80 minutes session.It was engaging and very interactive. Chef Suzanne spoke mostly in French and I was pleased that they all understood what was said. They were attentive and participated very well.

I would strongly recommend "Chef à l’école" - it's worth every cent. Apart from the fun of making a cake, the students were exposed to authentic French music and a very interesting history presentation on the arrival of the French in Canada. The overall cultural experience was indeed wonderful! Merci beaucoup Chef Suzanne!

Social Studies Comic Strip on Poverty

I am sooooo proud of my students' Social Studies comic strips. They had to write a story on any aspect of poverty or come up with an antipoverty message. Their creativity and knowledge of the issue is quite impressive.

Looking forward to their group presentations.This has been an ongoing inquiry research that involves examining current social and environmental issues from the point of view of a variety of stakeholders. My students love to debate so this should be REALLY, REALLY interesting. Can't wait :-)

Chef a l'ecole

On Wednesday, my class will participate in Chef à l’école. They will be making 'un gâteau au chocolat'  and chai tea.  Miam :-)

Will post pictures. The students are learning food related vocabulary and how to read recipes. Lots of learning going on! Really impressed with their level of French and even more with their enthusiasm to learn a second language. Bravo!

L'arbre Ungali - Final presentation of play

This past week in French class was AMAZING -  INCROYABLE !!!!

My two classes did an excellent job memorizing the play and pronouncing the words well. They were prepared and extremely enthusiastic to show off their acting and speaking skills.
