This was a really nice activity for students to consolidate their understanding of area and perimeter. The exploratory nature of the task brought out new discoveries. It prompted inquiry, insights and promoted a lot of rich discussions. I took notes!
" I did not know that the area and perimeter could be the same"
"The rectangle is longer than a square so the sides are obviously going to be longer"
" The perimeter is the outside of the shape. According to the way you place the units,the perimeter changes. Even moving one unit changes the perimeter"
" If it is a longer shape, you can get more units"
