School-Wide Math Prompt
Trying to figure out the Math problem in our groups. Hmmm .....
Our conclusion and ways of thinking.
Math Prompt
Taking a Gallery Walk to observe our classmates' thinking and different approaches.
Some of the feedback we gave our classmates so that they can improve on the next task.
We then called a Math Congress so that some groups could explain their mathematical thinking to the entire class. It gave us a chance to listen and observe different ways of thinking as well as to ask questions in order to clarify our understanding. At times we asked questions that stretched everyone's thinking and encouraged critical thinking.
Important discoveries were made as we wondered if all the groups had identified all the possible formats for the chocolate bar wrapper. We explored the different ways to arrange 36 cubes in a rectangular prism and deepened our understanding of multiplication. We noticed the associative and commutative properties of multiplication (even though we did not call it as such!).
